“You Just Gotta Relax” (Part 1)

Published by susans at 9:27 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

How many times have you heard that??  If ONLY it was that easy.  Stress seems to go hand in hand with infertility, and it’s a vicious cycle that we undergo every month.  We worry and stress over when ovulation will take place and if we’ll have the timing down right.  When we do, we stress over wondering if our tiny miracle is in the making inside us. We stress as we count the days until our expected menstration, meanwhile, we agonize over every little symptom (or lack thereof). When the next cycle starts exactly as scheduled, or God forbid, a few days late, we’re stressed over that, too.  Like I said, it’s a vicious cycle that only another infertile or trying to conceive woman could understand.

So.. I decided tonight that I (and most likely, you!) need to find a way to relax.  Okay.. relax may be too much to ask for.  Let’s just concentrate on de-stressing a bit.  I’ve been scouring the net for some health related information (another job I have), and I ran across a few sites today that I thought would be of benefit to all of us here.  Without further ado, let me share with you some of the ways I’ve ran across lately to destress!

Aromatherapy
Apparently, lighting scented candles isn’t the only way to enjoy a little scent-therapy.  The article I read suggests dipping cotton balls in essential oils and sniffing those.  The following scents are reported to be known for their stress relieving properties: lavender, geranium, chamomile, basil, clary sage, rosemary, and ylang-ylang.

Herbal Therapy
Kava Kava is supposed to be an excellent herb for relaxation. Siberian ginseng and St. John’s Wort are both good, too.  Some herbalists recommend an infusion of lime blossom, catmint and either lemon balm or chamomile in order to create a calming effect. Other relaxants are valerian, cowslip and skullcap.

Hydrotherapy
A good soak in the tub — it really does do you good!  A nice hot bath (between 100 to 102 degrees) helps the muscles in the body to relax.  Throw in a cheesecloth bag of some of those herbs mentioned earlier (or drop in a few drops of the essential oils) and let your stresses run down the bathtub drain.

These are all the suggestions I have for you right now, but did you notice the “Part 1″ in the title? Yep.. part 2 will be coming up.  Give some of these suggestions a try, or at least keep them in mind when you feel like you’re at the end of your rope.  I’ll be back with more suggestions tomorrow.
